Tywyn October 2020

In October 2020 between restrictions and lockdown we a short break, in Tywyn, a small town on the mid West Wales Coast.

We booked an Airbnb which was right out on the sea front. Therefore we had fabulous sea views and magnificent sunsets.

Below therefore are a set of pictures showing the sea front views and the sunsets. These will be followed by a short description and photos of places we visited in the area.

Barmouth including Bridge walk

So our first trip out sees us catching the Cambrian Coast train to undertake a long held ambition to walk the Barmouth Bridge So we got off at Morfa Mawddach, a request stop and then walked over the Barmouth Bridge. Lots of renovation work on the Bridge had commenced in preparation of ……the main works starting the following week

It was great to walk the bridge, enjoying the views on this lovely day as we walked over, then around Barmouth and caught the train back to Tywyn.

Cregennan lakes

The next day we go to an extremely pretty and quiet area, with great twisty road before and after, along with gates for Kath to open and close! Advantage of being the driver!

We went up to the Cregennan lakes, not big, although very tranquil. We had a good 4K walk around the lakes, very wet ground and wet soaks through the hike boots!

We then made our way to Dolgellau and walk around this small welsh town then over the bridge (see picture), before setting off back to Tywyn where the sun is shining and we sit looking at the sea.

Coed-y-Brenin Forest and Porthmadog

Next day off we go on our visits again, firstly to the Coed-y-Brenin Forest, just north of Dolgellau. We had lunch and a good walk around especially down by the river....

We continue northwards to Porthmadog and have a look around this small town, as nice as we remember. We just happen to gravitate to the Ffestiniog station and we’re lucky enough to see a number of trains come in and out. This year we decided not to catch a train!

We then continue back down the coast, passing Harlech castle, a number of villages and into Barmouth. We did not stop this time, following the road back around and called in at Fairbourne and enjoyed views over the Barmouth bridge and harbour area.

Then back to Tywyn for another lovely sunset...so lucky...

Walk  - Tywyn to Aberdovey.

A day of exercise as we walked along the coastal footpath and as the tide was out, the beach from Tywyn to Aberdovey.... It was a good walk, rather windy, although this was mainly on our backs. The sand was blown up, and made great patterns.... We caught the train back, and ready to watch the rugby premiership semi finals.

Dolgoch falls and Castell-y-Bere

So today we went and walked up the Dolgoch falls, very pretty area in an old woodland.... From there we went to the Castell-y-Bere.... 11th century ruins, set in the beautiful Welsh countryside.....Absolutely peaceful, which was wonderful.

We meandered our way back to Tywyn and are enjoying the beautiful sunny sea views from the balcony of the Airb&b we have hired.

Precipice Walk

Our next trip out we thoroughly enjoyed the Precipice Walk which is about three miles north of Dolgellau. The walk has fabulous views of the countryside and along the Mawddach river to Barmouth and the sea beyond. It was quite rough walking, gave the ankles a work out and it felt like we were walking a contour line around the hill. The walk was aptly named....

Mid Wales

Mid Wales - on the way home we enjoyed the views at LLanidloes, Rhayadar - Clearwen Valley and Rhayadar - Elan valley. A great finish to our trip.
